ONE TONE is an ongoing project examining the restrictions and possibilities of using a single coloured pencil for each piece. By limiting the colouration to a single colour, the project explores how realism can be captured in unconventional ways, constructing form through technique rather than relying on realistic colouration. Through a range of subjects and colours, each piece challenges how form, detail and recognisability can be communicated through a limited visual language.
As the collection grows, ONE TONE will develop into a wider exploration of realism and creative possibility. What begins as a simple limitation becomes a way to reconsider how subjects can be represented, demonstrating the varied outcomes that can be achieved through the use of a single colour.
